Wester Hailes High School on Murrayburn Drive, which has over 300 students enrolled, will be closed tomorrow, along with the pool facilities.
The city council said the “significant” water damage meant the building was due to be closed tomorrow and stressed that parents will be kept informed of the progress.
It is understood that a flood caused water damage to the roof and leaks in several rooms, in particular towards the electrical panels which serve the swimming pool. Work is currently underway on the roof.
Parents were told by staff earlier today that swimming lessons have been canceled for this week, after the pool was also hit by damage from the weekend flooding.
A parent told Evening News staff the water was “knee deep.”
A worried parent whose child attends swimming lessons at the pool said: “It is a real shame for all the children who have their swimming lessons there, especially since they only restarted the pool. last week after the start of the pandemic.
“But I hope the floods are eliminated quickly and there will be no lasting damage. I really hope the school can stay open throughout because it is so much more important.”
A spokesperson for Edinburgh City Council said: ‘Wester Hailes High School and Leisure Center will be closed on Monday 23 August following extensive water damage over the weekend. Parents and guardians will be contacted directly by the principal and kept informed of progress.
