SR 89A lane to close November 30 for manhole repairs

The City of Sedona Wastewater Department and contractor Standard Construction Company will complete repairs to a sewer manhole located on State Route 89A between Upper Red Rock Loop Road and Bristlecone Pines Road, starting after – midday of Tuesday, November 30 and ending on Thursday, December 2.

Approximately 500 feet of the northbound right lane will be closed for the duration of the project. Motorists traveling to Sedona from Cottonwood should expect slight delays during this time.

Repairs are necessary because the manhole is damaged by sewer gas; the manhole rings, the concrete cover and the bezel will be replaced. Crews will be actively working to complete repairs starting Tuesday afternoon, through the night and are expected to be completed by early Wednesday morning. The remainder of the closure is needed to allow the concrete collar to harden before allowing traffic to flow over it.

“This repair is important to prevent further deterioration of the manhole, which is part of the main sewer line that carries wastewater to the wastewater recovery plant. The repair should also alleviate the odor that has been intermittently problematic in this area recently, ”said Roxanne Holland, Wastewater Manager for the City of Sedona.
