Two people escaped from a car with minor injuries after it hit a post and caught fire on Sunday afternoon in Crystal Lake.
The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Department responded at around 1:40 p.m. Sunday at Waste Management, 1400 South Virginia Road.
First responders received a call for a single vehicle accident directly in front of the waste management building on Virginia Road.
Witnesses reported that an older model sedan was traveling northbound on Virginia Road when it struck a pole on the east side of the street.
The sedan then rolled off the roadway to the west and caught fire, witnesses said.
The driver and a passenger were able to get out of the car before the fire brigade arrived. One of the victims appears to have suffered a head injury, a witness said.
Paramedics assessed the two victims and refused transport to hospital.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire from the vehicle. It is not known what caused the accident or if the driver was cited by the police.
