Electricity, water and gas industry revenue up 6.4% to R330 billion

JOHANNESBURG – Stats SA says the total revenue of the electricity, gas and water industry in 2021 was recorded at over R330 billion.

This is an increase of 6.4% per year since the reference period of 2019.

Stats SA has released the latest figures on the nature and structure of the industry.

Stats SA deputy chief executive Joe de Beer said revenue generated by the electricity, gas and water industry has risen from R292 billion in 2019 to R330 billion in 2021 .

Strong increases were reported for power generation, transmission and distribution, with an increase of R31.7 billion.

The collection, purification and distribution of water represents the second largest increase in income.

Meanwhile, total spending in 2021 has been reported at R336 billion.

De Beer said wages and salaries accounted for almost 11% of total expenses.

Stats SA said the results were essential for policy, planning, monitoring and evaluation decisions.
