Dane County Waste Management says their landfill is running low on space. Specifically, 2030 is when it should be at full capacity.
Their proposed solution: buy 18 of the 36 holes at the Yahara Hills public golf course.
Dane County Waste Management Director John Welch believes this potential solution is the best the county has.
âWe will be working closely with our partners to try to take a landfill that people are avoiding and turn it into a space that can be a community resource,â Welch explained. âPeople throw things away but there really isn’t any. Our goal is to continue to ensure waste management for our county.
Overall, the first phase of the potential plan would cost around $ 32 million.
Yahara’s 36 holes would remain open for the first two years of the plan. However, by the eighth year, the eastern half of the route would turn into a state-of-the-art waste management facility.
Welch doesn’t just want this new space to be used as a dumping ground. He hopes it will provide other resources as well, calling it a ‘sustainability campus’ where the public has access to things like an education center on how waste management works and even provide spaces. of work in companies.
Overall: Welch hopes this proposal will be approved by next summer. The first phase of construction would start in about two years
time, while the actual completion of the first phase would be around the eighth year.
