Brevard County seeks to centralize garbage collection complaints, adding incentives – WFTV

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla .– Ralph Sutliff lives in unincorporated Brevard County. About three weeks ago, he complained about a failed garbage collection.

“We had some packing material to take out that just didn’t fit in the trash so I had to put (it) on the floor,” Sutliff said. “He was there for at least three of their trips. It just stayed there, and no one picked it up. And I just saw online where they have a form that you can fill out and let them know you need to get things picked up.

Two days later it was gone.

Channel 9 discovered last month that there were 543 waste management complaints filed with the county, which recently launched a new incentive program asking residents of unincorporated areas to report garbage pickups, recycling and missed garden.

Residents served by the Brevard County Solid Waste Management Services contract with Waste Management, who report missed collection services that can be verified by the county, could not receive an incentive of $ 14.53 for a telephone complaint and an inducement of $ 19.53 for an electronically recorded complaint.

County Commissioner Bryan Lober said: “The goals are twofold. “

“(It centralizes) complaints so that we have a better idea of where service failures are occurring and trends, and what the real numbers are,” he said.

Channel 9 contacted waste management on Monday and officials told them, “Like many industries, environmental services are affected by the nationwide labor shortage. We are also experiencing longer than usual wait times at disposal facilities, which are owned and operated by Brevard County. “
